The Methodist Church - Leeds (North East) Circuit

Preacher Development

CLPD Meeting ' Needs of Congregations'

Held at Trinity United Thurs April 23rd 2009

Five preachers were present.

We discussed the CLPD survey that took place with the churches in our Circuit in 2004.

Ashley Rd had closed since the survey.

We discussed each church at length.  In some churches there had been a great deal of change in the last five years, in others there was little change.

Worship Leaders ( W/L):    After discussion, we felt that it warranted further investigation at Circuit level, regarding the use of W/L, as a Circuit resource to help the churches with very small congregations.  It was suggested that in  the churches who share a minister, the larger church would inevitably have W/L it could use in the smaller church and that W/L be approached to see if they felt called to help in this way, leading say, the prayers of intercession, where they would know the needs of that congregation better than the visiting preacher.   We hope this might be discussed further in the Circuit.

We  concluded that the 'Needs of the Congregation'  survey still applies in some of the churches today.  However, other churches in the circuit have changed We  maybe need to ask the questions again in another survey.

Our final meeting on this subject closed with prayer and the Grace.
